I’m reading this book now, and it is the most precious gem of a book.
Simply put, it is a book about the worst horrors through the eyes of innocence.
The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is a book set in World War II, written from the tender perspective of a German boy, Bruno, who is just slightly too young to understand. His world is small, comfortable and perfect. Yet, when his father’s new role in the war requires his family to move to a new home, he is forced to grow up all too quickly.
With Bruno, we slowly piece together the heartbreaking reality that surrounds him: the cruelty of his father, who is also his hero, the confusing fact that some humans are less-than, that children are not always taught the right things.
